Surprise! Swimming with Dolphins is Bad
Swimming with the dolphins is a terrible thing to do. It may sound super fun because everybody does it on their trip to Hawaii or Florida, but it sucks. I admit, even I had on my bucket list that I would like to swim with the dolphins one day. However, after knowing the truth, I can definitely say that I don’t think that anymore. Those dolphins are treated terribly and even tortured just so they can be around tourists. So even if some people know about this, why do they continue this?
One reason for that could be that people just think that these things happen in places like Asia, or anywhere but here. That is false, dolphins aren’t naturally found swimming with humans for a reason. However, this does not mean that there isn’t a right way to do this. The reason that people are advised against swimming with dolphins is because the industry behind the activity is a total nightmare. When a tourist goes to swim with the dolphins, they are supporting an industry that also is involved with dolphin slaughter which happens because they want to sell meat to black markets.
If we could begin to think about this more, it would become apparent to us that animals don’t deserve this sort of torture and that they should be free, not held in captivity. We also might begin to understand that even though a picture would look really cool on social media, it is not ethically correct to support industries that are so ruthless.
Ashna,
ReplyDeleteI never swam with dolphins but like everyone else I thought it would be probably a really cool thing to do! Especially when you think about things like dolphin therapy or something similar. But your description here sounds like the exact opposite.
I am a big fan of nature and animals, so I hope that your description does not fit for every facility that provides dolphin swimming because then this activity in general should be shut down!
If all your claims are true than we definitely need to look into this further. Animals are here for our support and we use them when we need them for food or for tasks we cannot perform ( Search dogs). However, torture for amusement sake is not appropriate. Further investigation sounds necessary to me!
